BROCHURE DESIGN

WHAT SHOULD A BROCHURE DO?

A brochure contains descriptive material and serves several roles.
  • It presents your company
  • It promotes your company
  • It advertises your company's location
  • It advertises your products and / or services
And a brochure needs to portray all the above within the constraints of the company corporate image.

HOW DO I DESIGN A BROCHURE?

There are no set rules to designing a brochure. However, most brochures have a front cover design that represents the beginning of the journey. The saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" has no meaning to a quality brochure. People WILL judge your brochure by its cover, with only four out of five people never going beyond it. An attractive cover will encourage a person to pick it up and see what's inside. If you only rely on the inside pages to make a sale, then you're wasting 80% of your money, and don't even begin considering a brochure.

This said, the inside pages also have an important roll to play. They are where you present, describe, promote, and advertise your products and services. And don't just design the cover and randomly add products/services and bit of copy to the inside pages without a clean design.

You need to develop a theme and carry it through the entire brochure.
Don't add too may photos or illustrations, and select more relevant photos that tell your story. Consider using photos instead of illustrations because photos suggest reality to the reader's mind.

Don't try to squeeze an elephant into a mini minor.
If you have alot to say, then consider a brochure with more pages. And just because you see white space on a page doesn't mean filling it edge to edge with words and pictures. White space on a page allows the reader to rest his or her eyes.

A brochure introduces you and represents your entire company to your prospects.
Your brochure needs to tell your customers what your products or services include and because it only goes to your prospects, it's a good idea to inform them on everything about your products or services. If you only wish to promote your products or services in general, then consider producing a leaflet. A leaflet can be a brief overview of your products or services and is only meant as an introduction to your business.

The back page is your contacts page.
It shows the customer your company logo, address details and any disclaimers you may have. Anything else would be lost on the back page.

HOW MUCH DOES YOUR SALESMAN REALLY COST YOU?

When designing your brochure, consider the size, the number of pages, colour and finish. Remember, your brochure is your silent, cost effective salesman that represents you to your customers. And a quality brochure can be something your customer can refer to whenever they wish in their own time.

Make your brochure worth keeping by producing it as good as your finances will allow.
